About Melissa Thompson, MD
Melissa Thompson, MD has been practicing at The Iowa Clinic since 2012. In the 13 years prior to joining The Iowa Clinic, Dr. Thompson practiced medicine in small town Iowa. She was looking for an opportunity that gave her more time to be a mom while still being able to care for patients – an opportunity she found at The Iowa Clinic.
While Dr. Thompson loved every rotation she did in medical school (even surgery), by the end of the month she was always ready for something new. Job diversity is important to Dr. Thompson which is what makes family medicine the perfect fit for her. She can go from seeing a newborn baby to seeing that baby’s grandparent. She loves the ability to build relationships with her patients over a lifetime. She has some young patients in which she is the only doctor they have ever known. Dr. Thompson has even been invited to a young woman’s wedding whom she provided care to since elementary school. These are the kinds of strong doctor-patient relationships family medicine can offer.
In her free time, Dr. Thompson is a mom to two middle schoolers. Her husband Mike takes care of their children full time – between the two of them they have their hands full with sports, scouts, and band. They live on 40 acres and raise dogs, cats, and dandelions.
