Pre-Operative Testing

What to Expect for Your Testing Appointment:

Once you confirm your appointment, you will receive a text message or email with check-in information and additional instructions for your test. The online check-in process is mandatory in order for our staff to complete your testing at your scheduled time.

Pre-op testing is done at an off-site location at 7147 Vista Drive in West Des Moines and is no longer held at the main Iowa Clinic campus in West Des Moines. The Iowa Clinic Pre-Operative Testing Location Map

When you arrive for your test, spots near the south entrance will be designated. You do not need to wait in your vehicle and can proceed directly to the designated entrance to check in for your test.

Please plan to arrive 5 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment time and wear a mask. If possible, come to your appointment alone. Visitors accompanying patients are not permitted unless assistance is needed, or the patient is a minor.

Post-Test and Results

After you get tested, you must self-isolate while you wait for your results. If you are not able to work from home until your surgery, you must wear a mask while working. Please follow all instructions provided to you by the provider or nurse administering your test.

NOTE: You will only be notified of your results if you test positive. Weekend testing will have a delay in results.

Your insurance will be billed for the COVID-19 lab test and the nurse visit to obtain the test. If you have no insurance, you will be financially responsible for your visit.

Illness

If you become ill, it is extremely important that you do not have your procedure or surgery as it may place you at additional risk and potentially infect others. If you develop symptoms between your test date and the date of your procedure or surgery, it is your responsibility to inform the physician doing your surgery or procedure immediately so your procedure or surgery can be postponed. This is for your safety and the safety of your healthcare providers.
